The Association for Laboratory Medicine is one of the world's leading professional membership organisations dedicated to the practice and promotion of clinical science. As the major body for clinical biochemistry, immunology and microbiology in the United Kingdom, we work nationally and internationally to promote the highest standards in laboratory testing and patient care.

We have medical and non-medical members in all major UK healthcare laboratories, in university departments and in several commercial companies involved in healthcare. Through the Federation of Clinical Scientists we provide trade union support for clinical scientists. Membership is open to all health professionals with an interest in laboratory medicine.

We have fruitful links with the clinical diagnostics industry through our corporate members and industry partnerships programme.

We promote the importance of laboratory medicine to the wider community. Our members are involved with all aspects of patient testing - from testing patient samples in a laboratory through to interpreting results and assisting with patient care and monitoring.

Our activities are co-ordinated by a dedicated staff team from our headquarters in central London with the active involvement of  full time practising clinical scientists all over the UK.
