ACB and LTO-UK argue in favour of direct patient access to test results in BMJ article.

23/02/2015 11:36:09

Dr Maurice O'Kane, ACB Director of Clinical Practice, and Dr Danielle Freedman, Chair of Lab Tests Online UK, support the introduction of greater patient access to laboratory tests results in a British Medical Journal article assessing whether patients can effectivley use test results.

Concerns have been raised that increased access to test results without appropriate education for patients could lead to people misinterpreting results and cause unecessary stress and anxiety to patients.

Dr Freedman and Dr O'Kane counter these concerns stating that increased patient engagement can contribute to better decision making and highlight the effectiveness of Lab Tests Online-UK as an educational resource helping patients to better understand the results they receive.
