Peer Review of the Pathology Bounded Code List - Comments Requested

27/08/2014 10:28:06

The latest version of PBCL will be released via TRUD in October and so there is a small window of opportunity for pathology staff to review and comment on the content.

PBCL has grown through the individual requests by pathology staff without any pathology governance process. In 2006 the UK Terminology Centre determined that new items should be generic – viz without inclusion of the analysed sample type in the name. This has now been reversed in order that units of measurement can be allocated to each analyte.

The urgent need is to check that the units included in this version of PBCL are appropriate. To date the emphasis has been on biochemistry, haematology and allergy but work on other disciplines continues. A large number of information sources have been used in compiling this list of units.
