It is a pleasure to welcome you all to Leeds for Focus 2017. We hope that you will join us in Yorkshire, the heart of the UK, where we will Focus on the Patient Journey. The conference will be held in the Royal Armouries Museum, a national museum close to Leeds city centre which houses and displays the national collection of arms and armour.

Leeds is a modern, forward-looking, cosmopolitan city and is home to the world-renowned University of Leeds and the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. The research undertaken, the teaching of scientists and the work of the health care community in these two organisations is reflected in the excellent scientific programme for Focus 2017. A key theme throughout the conference will be a celebration of the young members of the profession. We will acknowledge our young scientists’ achievements and look at their aspirations for the future; we will also celebrate the results of collaborations between our UK and European colleagues. In addition, Focus 2017 will explore the best ways of delivering a patient-oriented service, managing professional and patient knowledge and work being done at the interface between research and service delivery.

In a consultation process, the Members of the ACB expressed a wish for a two-day Focus meeting. We have therefore taken this into account to deliver an exciting programme at a fantastic venue with excellent conference and commercial exhibition facilities, concentrated into two science-packed days.

Focus 2017 will be an invaluable opportunity to meet, discuss and exchange ideas with colleagues old and new. Delegates will be spoiled for choice if seeking entertainment outside the conference. Leeds and Yorkshire offer theatres, museums, art collections, dining, sporting activities, rugged countryside and stunning coastline.

We are proud to be hosting this exciting meeting, and we hope you will join us in making Focus 2017 a great success.
