Since April 2003, the only routes for registration as a clinical scientist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) have been through the award of the Association of Clinical Scientists' (ACS) Certificate of Attainment or the "grandparenting" rules of HPC. "Clinical Scientist" is a protected title and only state registered practitioners are able to use the title.
Full details of the 4 and 6 year routes to state registration, together with relevant documentation are available through the ACS website www.assclinsci.org. All new entrants to the profession will follow one of these two routes. Details of "grandparenting" and international applications along with the activities and responsibilities of the Health and Care Professions Council can be found on the Council's website www.hcpc-uk.org
