The ACB Foundation Award will be presented annually at the National Meeting of the Association. The Award, which will be presented by the president or chairman of the Association, will comprise a suitable momento and an honorarium. Prior to the presentation, the recipient will deliver the ACB Foundation Award Lecture.
The recipient of the ACB Foundation Award will be a member of the Association, normally resident in the British Isles, who is acknowledged as having made an outstanding contribution to clinical biochemistry. The subject matter of the Foundation Award Lecture should reflect the interests of the Award recipient, and it should be of a scientific nature, reflecting the state of the art in one area of clinical biochemistry.
Nominations for the Award may be made by any three members of the Association, and each nomination should be supported by a statement of 100-200 words which outlines the nature of the contribution made by the nominee and the reasons for considering it to be of outstanding importance in current laboratory practice. Elected members of the Council of the Association may not sign nominations, either as proposer or seconder. All nominations should have the agreement of the nominee, who should be available to give the Award Lecture at the next National Meeting. Nominations should be sent to the Secretary of the Region to which the proposer is affiliated. The Regional Secretary is responsible for ensuring that the supporting statement is adequate. The nominations and supporting statements must he sent to the Meetings Secretary of the Association before a specified date, to be announced each year.
An awards committee, comprising the Association President, the National Meetings Secretary and the Chairman of the Programme Committee of the next Focus meeting, will consider the nominations and make a recommendation to the Association Council.
A full list of nominations and copies of supporting statements will be circulated to members of Council.
The name of the ACB Foundation Award
recipient will be published in ACB News, together with a brief personal
appreciation.
