First donated in 1992 by Metachem Diagnostics Ltd, the prize is for the best two analytical posters displayed at the Association’s annual Focus meeting. The aim of the prize is to promote innovation in analytical technology in hospital laboratories. This prize itself is a cash award of £250 for each winner.
The competition is open to all those displaying posters at Focus meetings, except for commercial companies. Posters will be selected from those authors who indicate on the Abstract submission form that they wish to be considered for the Metachem prize. The Analytical Investigations Standing Committee of the Association will judge the posters according to the criteria listed below:
Novelty/Innovation: this includes original
technological innovation in any analytical area or alternatively novel
application of existing technology,
Timeliness: the poster should address current or future needs,
Proof of Effectiveness: clinical samples should be used and improvement
over existing technologies should be demonstrated,
Presentation: this will be judged on the basis of clarity, interest and
general quality of the data presented,
Discussion: in discussion with the judges, the presenting author should
show genuine understanding of the technology and its application.
This prize is no longer awarded.
